Challice Architects originates from 1904 when chartered architect, R.M. Challice established his practice in Exeter. He was responsible for many well-known, landmark buildings in the city and southwest England. Throughout two world wars and beyond, as family successors were introduced, the name R.M. Challice and Son emerged. In 1981, the practice moved to Sidmouth and was later incorporated as Challice Architects Limited.
A Plymouth office was added more recently.
For over a hundred years, the practice has maintained a reputation for providing a quality assured, highly personal service. Over a broad spectrum, from the humblest of domestic extensions, alterations and conservation work to major healthcare, education, industrial, commercial and retail developments, the objective is to always provide within time and economic constraints, spaces and buildings that are workable, context-sensitive and sustainable. In every respect possible, these are innovative solutions to site and user-specific requirements, sympathetic to the environment and crucially, a worthwhile, enjoyable legacy for others.
